same old tales..

well. it has happened again... tragedy struck and all fingers are pointing everywhere... i'm talking about the dragon boat tragedy in penang. before tragedy happened, no one bothers whether the students were training with life jackets or not, no one bother to say that procedures were not adhered to. now, it's.. whose fault? whose mistake? i would feel that sometimes, these things just happen, it's god's will.. fate... no one is to be blamed.. of course these can be avoided if there are more adherance to rules and regulations. the rules and regulations are drawn up to prevent mishaps or tragedies.. so, when students want teachers to take them on trips either on a study tour or camping trips, don't blame teachers for their reluctance to do so...

sad news

remember the woman who burnt herself because of her teenage daughter? it seems she had 54% burns and died. now the daughter is full of regrets but isn't it too late? so, i hope all of you teenagers out there, don't wait until it's too late. think of your parents and understand that they're always trying their level best to nurture you so that you do not fall too much or suffer too much before you're even an adult... try to understand that parents only want the best for their children. before you defy them, think and think thoroughly... parents are there not to make it difficult for you. they just want to protect you from all the bad influences that will ruin your life.... so, before you hate or disobey your parents, think, think, think of the consequences....

another case of parent neglect

when i say parent neglect, i mean parents neglected by their grown-up children. the most recent case (two days ago) a 51-year old man was locked out of his house by his own son and daughter-in-law. the man had just returned from a surgery and was hoping to recuperate at home but it turned out he had to sleep on the streets. when interviewed, the man lamented that his son could do such a thing to him after he had struggled to bring him up. what is the world coming to? now i shudder to think what will happen in the future....

surprise! surprise!

it's rather surprising when i confront students with modern technology terms and receive blank stares or no response from them. i've always thought students in this era should be well aware of modern technology or have experienced it even though i know not everyone is fortunate enough to own the modern gadgets. what i'm surprised is rather the lack of knowledge in this subject. don't you think students should expose themselves to modern technology either by experiencing it themselves or reading about it either in the papers or magazines?

teenage upbringing

have you all read or heard of the news whereby a mother doused herself with petrol and tried to burn herself? the reason... an impossible teenage daughter!!! she said that she could not handle her teenage daughter and was at her wit's end and she finally took the drastic decision to burn herself alive. fortunately, she was rescued and escaped with minor burns. heard of andy lau's case where a father sold off his house so that his daughter could go to Hong Kong to meet her idol, andy lau. after she had achieved that, she still pestered her father to make andy lau be her boyfriend and in order to do that her father jumped into the sea and left a note begging andy lau to be her boyfriend!!! and  this girl, after her father's death, still took the note to andy lau to ask him to be her boyfriend, without feeling anything about her father's death... there was no sadness on her part!!! what is the world coming to when children have very selfish wants and demands that drive most parents to the brink, either towards madness or suicide??? what are teenagers expecting from parents anyway?

a teacher's life

every new year, teachers are faced with different sets of students and also new sets of responsibilities, and some may add, new sets of problems be it be from students, parents, colleagues or even the principal of the school. however, my motto is, take whatever comes and shoulder on - no point complaining or lamenting when nothing can be done to change anything. that's what i would like to encourage my students to ponder over this issue about facing new difficulties.. do we complain and complain when we know it changes nothing or the complaints not only doesn't solve the problem but might even make them worse... as i believe, whether we are sad or happy, we still have to go through life... so why not live a happy one rather than a sad one..?
